Life saving surgery with a team you know and trust

Nobody wants to think about surgery, especially if it’s for their fur babies, but the reality is sometimes it’s necessary. If your pet has an issue that’s causing them discomfort or pain, surgery may be the solution.

At MustCare, we know that surgery should always be the last resort. But if surgery will help your pet lead a happier life, you won’t find a more accomplished team to perform it than our expert surgeons.

The benefits of pet surgery

  • Surgery can be life saving
  • Fix issues that cause discomfort or deformity
  • Our in-house operating theatre saves you from waiting for referrals
  • In-house surgery means your pet will be in a familiar place with familiar faces

FAQs

The pet surgery process can be broken down into three stages: pre-surgery, surgery and recovery.

Pre-surgery

Bring your pet in early and kiss them goodbye before our cuddly nurses settle them in. A few hours before surgery, we’ll do a pre-anaesthetic exam and sedate them. Intravenous fluids are used in all anaesthetics to support the blood pressure, which makes the anaesthetic safer and allows for a smoother, faster recovery

Surgery

General anaesthesia will be administered by our expert surgeon. The surgery will be performed with the assistance of our team of experienced nursing staff. Blood pressure, breathing rate and blood oxygen levels are monitored throughout. Once the surgery is complete, your pet will be allowed to rest for recovery.

Recovery

We continue to monitor your pet during the recovery stage. They’ll be cleaned, dried and settled in with a warm blanket and a snuggle buddy.

Recover times can vary depending on the severity of the surgery. Generally speaking, once your pet is awake, walking and has their pain under control they can return home.

Make sure your pet is comfortable and in a stress-free environment. Try not to let them move around too much for the first few days and make sure you follow our post-surgery care instructions.

We can perform a range of surgeries in-house, including but not limited to:

  • Advanced orthopaedic procedures, (including TTO for ruptured anterior cruciate ligament)
  • Desexings of cats, dogs and small mammals
  • Abdominal surgery: bowel obstruction, bladder stone removal, splenectomy, exploratory diagnostics
  • Lump removals
  • Wound repairs
  • Caesareans
  • Cruciate ligament repairs
  • Luxating patella surgeries
